History Nugget #2 – Cottage History. A cozy corner of Historic Shady Lane, built for guests and now beloved by HSL couples.
Tucked within the grounds of Historic Shady Lane lies one of its most charming gems, the Cottage. Though it’s the newest structure on the estate, having been built around 1911, it still carries the timeless elegance that defines this historic property. With homes dating back to the 1700s and 1800s also on the estate, the Cottage adds a unique 20th century touch to this beautifully layered timeline of architecture.
Originally built as a guest house by Frederick Small at the turn of the century, the Cottage features unique architecture that sets it apart. Its design reflects the thoughtful craftsmanship of the early 1900s, and its light-filled rooms radiate warmth.
Today, the cottage serves as a getting ready suite. A peaceful, welcoming space where preparation begins for one of life’s most memorable moments. From its charming interiors to its place in the estate’s history, the cottage is more than just a building; it’s a meaningful part of what makes Historic Shady Lane so unforgettable.
