Historic Shady Lane hosted it’s first event of the 2026 season, welcoming touring couples and their friends and family to the venue for an afternoon of walking the grounds, meeting vendors, and enjoying free food and drink samples.

What is Historic Shady Lane’s Tour Open House?

Historic Shady Lane’s tour open house is an afternoon for couples who are looking for a wedding venue to tour Historic Shady Lane in a low-pressure environment — meaning they can explore the grounds on their own, at their own pace.

During this event, local wedding vendors donate their time and services to welcome couples to the estate, making the day look and feel like a real wedding! Historic Shady Lane’s Venue Director, Bradania, is also onsite, to answer any questions that couples may have during their visit and time onsite.

A Thoughtful Recpetion Design

For the past year, Blake Events has partnered with Historic Shady Lane to plan and design seasonal tour open houses. With each open house, their team strives to welcome guests onsite and showcase the upcoming seasons’ trends and inspire creativity for couples’ weddings.

This April, Logan, Lead Planner from Blake Events carefully and thoughtfully designed Historic Shady Lane’s tour open house to feel warm and welcoming, while also promoting excitement and encouraging couples to think outside the box when it comes to designing a reception layout.

Handpicked from A to Z‘s extensive rental collection, Logan selected dinner ware, tables and chairs, and chic accessories that transported guests to an intimate and fun wedding reception.

Blossom Bliss crafted stunning greenery installations on the chandeliers and cheerful centerpieces on the reception tables.

Greenhouse: A Preview of Cocktail Hour and Ceremony

While it rained during the event set up, open house attendees enjoyed overcast skies turning to warm sun throughout the afternoon. With a slight change of plans, Historic Shady Lane showcases the 1890s greenhouse as a small ceremony set up, as well as cocktail hour and lounge.

Foster’s Flowers created bountiful, springtime arrangements for both cocktail hour and ceremony options. Marrying modern tones of bright pine and rattan with soft furniture pieces of blue and yellow, this greenhouse design was the first display open house attendees experienced during their walkthrough.

Logan with Blake Events curated a beautiful mix of blue floral linens and solid colors, elevating the table designs in both the greenhouse and reception tent.

Wyndham Garden of York, providing both onsite hospitality services and offsite catering options, welcomed guests to the greenhouse with a grazing table of cheeses, fruits, crackers, and more.

The Newly-Renovated Garden House

Those who attended the spring tour open house were some of the first to view Historic Shady Lane’s newly-renovated Garden House in person!

Once a forgotten storage and staging area for most wedding days, the Garden House at Historic Shady Lane is now a full functional and beautiful space. Couples and their guests will find this area, which is off to the side of the greenhouse, to be cozy and welcoming for cocktail hour, complete with vintage touches and a wood-burning fireplace option for chilly days!

34 Acres of Outdoor Spaces

Historic Shady Lane proudly shares all 34 acres of grounds with its couples and guests. Full of historic structures, garden spaces, lush walks, and woodlands, no other York-based wedding venue has as much to share.

The most prominent features across Historic Shady Lane’s property include:

  • Walks featuring 19th century cobblestone
  • An 1825-built farmhouse
  • 1890s-era greenhouse and garden house
  • 1911 stone cottage
  • Gardens, lawns, and woodlands
