August weddings are growing in popularity, with Historic Shady Lane in bloom and the greenery lush and expansive, and the mornings and evenings becoming cooler. Becca and Jay were married in the Rose Garden, a popular setting at the venue, complete with early 20th century cobble stone and creekside seating. Explore their editorial-style wedding day, captured on film by Jackie Steele Photography.

Getting Ready Onsite: Bridal Suite at Historic Shady Lane

Our brides are always treated to luxury while getting ready onsite. The Cottage at Historic Shady Lane was constructed in 1911 for the original caretake of the summer property. This beautiful stone house now serves as the starting point for every wedding day, with hair and makeup teams arriving onsite, the girls drinking mimosas, and pastries spread out in the dining room. It’s also a bride’s dream for a timeless setting for photos while getting ready, complete with carefully-sourced vintage furniture and unique pieces for shooting all the details.

The Cottage also sits in a serene setting, with lush trees and ivy-covered trunks, perfect for portraits and wedding party photos. Pictured here, you’ll notice the stone foundation of an early 1800s barn, original to the property.

Summer Ceremony in the Rose Garden

On a sunny August day, Becca and Jay welcomed their family and friends to witness their vows, and share in the celebration. The Rose Garden at Historic Shady Lane is one of our most diverse ceremony settings onsite, with early 1900s cobblestone walks and architecture, the sounds of fountains and creek in the background, an a beautiful wedding party entrance from the 1825 stone farm house.

Cocktail Hour at the Greenhouse at Historic Shady Lane

A favorite part of the wedding day for both couples and their guests is enjoying drinks and appetizers at Historic Shady Lane’s iconic glass and stone greenhouse. Constructed in 1890 by Lord and Burnham, based in New York, the original structure still stands, with modern updates such as a new stone floor and metal roofing.

An Elegant Tented Reception Space at Historic Shady Lane

Summer weddings feel incomplete without the open-air elegance of a tented reception. Historic Shady Lane proudly boasts a 4,000 square foot reception tent, complete with white draping and crystal chandeliers. For guest comfort, the tent has full-siding with windows, allow for the space to be opened or closed in different types of weather.

Couples enjoy making the space all their own with fairy lighting, florals, and decor that reflects their love story.

The Magic of an August Wedding

August weddings at Historic Shady Lane enjoy large blooms from the hydrangea bushes, cooler evenings, and warm light filtering through the trees at sunset. Quickly becoming as popular as a fall wedding, August weddings are for couples who love warmth, color, and the joy that comes with celebrating in an outdoor setting.
